7. New housing

We have started construction of two new Passivhaus housing developments in Exeter. Once completed, the developments at Hamlin Gardens and Vaughan Road (Phase A of a larger development) will provide a combined 56 new flats for Exeter City Council tenants.

The new flats will be constructed to certified Passivhaus standards and utilise “fabric first” principles. This means the flats will be very energy efficient with high levels of insulation and exceptionally airtight. These flats will be climate resilient for the future and, when used correctly, the energy efficiency measures will help tenants offset the increased cost of living against savings in energy bills.

Our teams work closely with tenants of our passivhaus properties to ensure that they  understand how to use their Passivhaus properties to the maximum benefit.

Both projects are set to complete in 2024.

During the year the team also acquired 8 new properties from a private developer to be rented out to our tenants. The six new flats and two new houses were built on The Green, Holland Park, and will provide high-quality accommodation for households in Exeter.
