2. Background

What is the Household Support Fund?

A fifth Household Support Fund is being funded by the Department for Work and Pensions. £421m has been made available to County Councils and Unitary Authorities in England to support those most in need with the cost of essentials via the Household Support Fund. Under an agreement with Devon County Council, we will once again be delivering cost of living support to low income households in Exeter in financial hardship to help with the cost of:

  • Energy and water costs
  • Food
  • Essential items

In exceptional circumstances only, housing costs that are not met by other support may be considered.

In particular, this Household Support Fund scheme is to be used to support households in the most need, particularly those who may not be eligible for the other support that the government has made available but who never-the-less are in need.
