1. Overview
Our aim is to protect significant buildings in conservation areas to ensure that any works undertaken do not detract from the character or appearance of the area.
If you own a property in a conservation area you may need to apply for planning permission to do certain works to both your building and any works to trees.
There may be other constraints in your area that may affect development. Please contact us if you require any further information.
The following alterations to buildings should be avoided:
- Replacement of the original roof coverings with alternative materials.
- Insertion of plastic (UPVC), aluminium or other non-traditional windows or doors.
- Inappropriate alterations to garden walls, railings, entrances, steps or paths.
- Removal of architectural features such as chimneystacks and pots, gate piers or decorative brickwork.
- The loss of front gardens to create parking areas.
The best way to retain the character of the conservation area is to keep your property in good repair and seek advice about proposed changes from us.
