The Poll Clerk’s role is to assist and support the Presiding Officer in all aspects of running the polling station they have responsibility for. These staff are required to arrive at the polling station for 6.30am and leave shortly after 10.00pm on polling day. All staff employed to work at a polling station must undertake training before taking up their appointment.

Count Assistants work in a team to verify and count the votes after polling stations close at 10:00pm. This usually involves working very late in the evening and sometimes overnight.

To undertake election duties you must be aged 18 or over, and be entitled to work in the UK (in accordance with the provisions of the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996).
