Procurement

Emissions from procurement span a broad range of activities and include capital and revenue spend. A number of measures have been taken to reduce emissions from our Procurement, in line with the Carbon Reduction Plan, including:

  • Discussions are currently ongoing with partnering organisations to introduce improved supplier carbon accounting data and obligate suppliers to provide contract specific emissions data, and use in contract selection process.
  • All suppliers and contractors who work for us are encouraged to hold an environmental accreditation such as the Green Accord or other equivalent and approved accreditation. The Green Accord was relaunched in March 2023. The updates allow businesses to evidence their net zero targets, carbon reductions achieved and sustainable business practices.
  • Procurement procedures currently under review to allow for better recording of Scope 3 emissions data. New eProcurement software launched in September 2022 will enable this.
  • Sustainable Food Policy developed in April 2023 to support the Plant Based Food Motion passed by Council December 2022 and to support the importance of accessing a whole-food plant-based diet.
