Parking Information for The City of Exeter

From the 5th May 2008 Devon County Council took on overall responsibility for enforcing parking restrictions on the streets of Devon (excluding Plymouth and Torbay) and traditional traffic wardens were replaced by Civil Enforcement Officers

This is known as Civil Parking Enforcement, which will free up resources for the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary to improve front line community policing.  The switching of enforcement powers to Devon County Council will decriminalise most parking offences but the police will still deal with serious offences such as dangerous parking and obstruction.

From the 5 May responsibility for on-street enforcement passed to local authorities and, in addition to running off-street car parks, the City Council will be undertaking on-street enforcement in Exeter on behalf of the County Council.

For more detailed information about Civil Parking Enforcement, please see Devon County Council's website at the following link

Exeter City Council provides 4,300 parking spaces in 25 car parks to meet the needs of shoppers, residents, visitors and people who work in the city.

Automatic advance warning signs advise motorists of the capacity of car parks and when their preferred car park is full. Pay and Display is used in the car parks, although Car Park Season Tickets for some car parks can be obtained.

A free Parking and Shopping Map of Exeter showing the location of the city's car parking is available. For more details please use the contact details on the right.

Parking for motorcycles is free in the car parks as long as a car parking space is not used and some provide secure bars to which the motorcycles can be safely locked.

Other organisations provide public car parking facilities in and around Exeter, including  Devon County Council (on-street pay and display, park and ride - see link below), National Car Parks (some city centre parking), APCOA - Parking Management Services (including Exeter St Davids Railway Station), W J Parking Ltd (Wessex Industrial Estate) and Euro Car Parks (Exeter Airport).
