About the Exeter Port Authority

Covering the Exe Estuary and approaches, our role is to help ensure marine operations and activities within the Harbour are undertaken in a safe and reasonable manner.

Our main duties include:

  • Building strong relationships with user groups and other stakeholders by providing a reassuring presence on the water

  • To enforce bye-laws, with a particular focus on speeding vessels

  • To record details of accidents or near miss incidents for Harbour Master to investigate

  • To monitor and report on the provision and maintenance of aids to navigation

  • To understand and practice counter pollution (and similar emergency) plans and procedures

  • To assist in ensuring the Council meets all relevant environmental obligations.

Exeter Canal and Quay team are responsible for the Exeter Canal and Quay.
