Bus passes - older or disabled people

The English National scheme allows free off-peak travel (from 9.30 weekdays) on all local bus services anywhere in England for people with eligible disabilities, and for older people.

Important - many passes expired in March 2013

Many National Bus Passes expired on the 31st of March 2013. Where possible, Devon County Council has arranged to issue eligible Devon residents with a replacement bus pass before this date.

Eligibility

Anyone born on or before 5 April 1950 and resident in England is eligible for a national bus pass from their 60^th birthday.

However from Tuesday 6 April 2010, for anyone born after 5 April 1950, the age of eligibility for a bus pass for women will be the pension age, and for men it will be the pensionable age of a woman born on the same day. 

The government is gradually increasing the state pension age for women from 60 to 65.  This means that by 6^th April 2020 both the pension age and the age of eligibility for a bus pass will be the same for both men and women.

If you are a Devon resident with a severe disability, you may be eligible for a Devon County Council Companion Pass, so that a companion can travel with you free on the bus.
