Collection times and schedules

All collections begin at 6am, so please ensure waste is placed ready for collection by this time on the correct day. This must be after 6pm on the night before the collection and emptied bins should be taken back onto private property as soon as practicable after collection and certainly no later than the end of the collection day.

Find out when your bin is collected for your property or download the collection calendars in 'downloads' above.

What you can expect

If you live within the Exeter City Council boundary, and have space for 'wheeled bins', we will:

  • Provide two wheeled bins for free, one for rubbish and one for recyclables
  • In most cases, empty green recycling bins one week and grey refuse bins the following week
  • For those properties where wheeled bins are unsuitable, we will supply green box(es) for free, and householders will need to provide their own black refuse bags

In other parts of the City, which currently have weekly refuse collections, we will:

  • Collect non-recyclable domestic rubbish every week : householders may need to provide their own black refuse bags if the property is unsuitable for a wheeled refuse bin
  • Green boxes will be provided free for recyclable items, which will be collected on alternate weeks

In all areas, we will:

  • Collect missed bins and clear up any related mess within 24 hours of them being reported
