Thursday Late Night Opening trial

Customer Service Advisor As part of the Council's commitment to improving access to services for residents and supporting the night-time economy in the City, the Council will be opening for a "Late Night" every Thursday from 11 April 2013.

Residents' needs and expectations of the Council change over time and it is important to understand if there is a demand from residents to access Council services outside of 'traditional' office hours. In order to test the demand for this, a six month pilot is being run from 11 April, to offer services to those that may find it more convenient to visit the Council in the early evening.

Some residents who are in employment will be potentially affected by the changes in benefits being introduced by Central Government. They may also have to pay council tax for the first time and this may cause concern and/or financial difficulty. As a result of this there may be a change in customer demand and it is hoped that having the relevant Council services open until 7pm on Thursday will make it easier for those who are working during the day and would like some advice or help, to come and speak to officers.

The services that will be added to the Council's existing provision on Thursday evenings until 7pm are:

  • Housing benefits
  • Housing advice
  • Housing estates
  • Housing rents
  • General housing enquiries
  • Planning
  • Parking
  • Council Tax
  • Business rates
  • Cleansing and Environmental Health support teams

Thursday evening opening will be in place for a six month trial period initially and during this time data will be gathered about the volume of the demand and the types of services that residents are coming in for. This will help Councillors to decide whether or not to make late night opening a permanent offer to residents
