Elections - When elections are due

This section has information concerning the the various types of elections administered by Exeter City Electoral Services office.

Exeter City Council Exeter City Council

Local Government (Exeter City Council) elections

Exeter City Councillors are appointed for a four year term but not all are elected at the same time. Elections are run on a three year cycle but only a third of the 40 seats are contested each year. No elections are held in the fourth year as this usually coincides with Devon County Council elections. City elections are usually held on the first  Thursday in May and next due on 1st May 2014. Local Government (Devon County Council) elections

Devon County Council elections are held on a four year cycle on the first Thursday in May and the next is due on 2nd May 2013.

Parliamentary (General) elections

Parliamentary Elections are held every 5 years on the first Thursday in May and the next one will be on 7th May 2015.

European Parliamentary elections

European Parliamentary elections take place every five years on the second Thursday in June. The next elections are 12th June 2014.

Police & Crime Commissioners elections

Police & Crime Commissioners elections will normally be held every four years on the first Thursday in May. However, the first elections are due on 15th November 2012 and the appointee will only serve a three and half year term. The following election will be in May 2016.
