Sunday car boot sale

Every Sunday from 6.45am - 12.45pm the market is attended by approximately 40 traders, up to 350 car boot sellers and 5,000 buyers.

The market and car boot is based at the Matford Park and ride car parks, Matford Centre, Matford Park Road, Marsh Barton - just a ten minute drive from the City Centre.

• Traders - 6.15 a.m.
• Car boot - 6.45 a.m.

Cost information

• Car boot £7.00 per car, £10.00 per van/trailer
• £15.00 per market trader
• Early Bird parking is available for the car boot at £10.00 for cars, and £15.00 for vans/ trailers.  If you wish to choose a space (restricted area) you can gain access to the site via the traders entrance from 6.15 a.m. - 6.45 a.m.  After this time any priority is lost as the main gates will be opened.  Please note, Early Bird parking does not guarantee you the same pitch every week.  All car boot spaces are allocated on a first come, first serve basis.

Car boot volunteers

Every week a different charity or voluntary organisation located within a 10 mile radius of Exeter assist with the organisation and running of the Sunday car boot sale.  The Charity receives payment of £1.75 for every car ticket sold, or £3.00 for every van/trailer ticket and early bird ticket sold, with a guaranteed minimum payment of £400.00.

If you are involved with a charity and would be interested in assisting at the car boot sale, you need to provide a minimum of 12 volunteers from 6 a.m. - 2 p.m.

New traders for the market (not applicable for the car boot sale)

Please note you must have public liability insurance to £5 million to trade on the Sunday Market.  Please bring documentation with you on the day so the Supervisors on duty can make a note of the details as we are unable to permit you to trade without it.  You will also be required to complete an application form for our records.

Devon County Council Car Boot Code of Practice

The Matford Centre Sunday Market & Car Boot Sale is a member of the Trading Standards Car Boot Code of Practice.  The Code of Practice ensures legitimate market traders can be clearly identified as they have a legal obligation to display their business name and address.  

We do take a number of measures to prevent the sale of counterfeit and illegal items on the market, but if you see a stall selling a product which you think is suspect take a note of the vehicle registration, position of the stall in question and a description of the seller.  Please do not approach the seller yourself, but report the details to Trading Standards (Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm 01392 381381 OR evenings & weekends 01392 499 499) or Devon & Cornwall Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.  Alternatively pass the details on to a member of staff on duty during the day so they can take further action.
