Government and Regional Strategic Guidance
The Local Development Framework (LDF) should be in general conformity with The Draft Regional Spatial Strategy for the South West (2006) (RSS) covering the period up to 2026. It is the Government's intention to revoke the RSS, but this is subject to the outcome of environmental assessments and will not be undertaken until the Secretary of State and Parliament have had the opportunity to consider the findings of the assessment. See the Environmental report on the revocation of the South West RSS. In future the RSS is likely to have no relevance, but the RSS evidence base will still be important.
The Draft RSS proposes substantial housing and employment growth at Exeter and land to the east of the City. Exeter and adjoining areas in East Devon have been identified by central government as the Exeter and East Devon New Growth Point.
