Business planning applications

A business proposing to alter, extend, build or change the use of premises often must apply for planning permission.

The Department for Communities and Local Government have produced a Planning guide for businesses which is a summary of the planning system for businesses in England. It provides guidance on when planning permission is required, how to make a planning application, and what happens afterwards. However, it is not an authoritative interpretation of the law. If after downloading and reading the guide you are still unclear how to proceed, you should ask the planning department for advice.

How to submit a planning application

Planning applications can be submitted via the Government's Planning Portal. Additional Government information about Types of Planning Applications is also available. Alternatively, Application forms & validation checklists and information on what to submit with your planning application are available from us.
