High hedges

The high hedge legislation is something that should be used as a last resort to deal with high hedges.

The legislation only applies to hedges

• That are on land owned by someone else
• That are made up of a line of two or more evergreen or semi-evergreen trees
• That are more than 2m high
• That are capable of obstructing light or views.

Before complaining to the Council it is important to keep a record of what efforts have been made to try and settle the matter with the neighbours. The Council will want to see copies of letters or dates when the neighbours have been talked to. The leaflets listed below give more information.
