9. Information for students

If you are a student in Exeter you can vote in local and national (parliamentary) elections if you are eligible and your name is on the electoral register.

You can register to vote in Exeter if you are:

  • 18 (or will become 18 during the life of the register)
  • a British, Irish, Commonwealth or European Union Member State citizen
  • Resident at an Exeter address, including Halls of Residence

For local elections students are entitled to register at both their home address and their university address.  However, it is an offence to vote more than once in the same election.

If you decide only to register at your home address, you must still send back your completed Invitation to Register form, and state on it that you are already registered elsewhere.  This will prevent reminder forms from being issued.
