Funding and grants for businesses

  • The Workplace Charging Scheme provides support for organisations towards the cost of installing up to 40 electric vehicle chargepoint sockets at their sites. The scheme covers up to 75% of the total costs of the purchase and installation of EV chargepoints (including VAT), capped at a maximum of £350 per socket, and a maximum of 40 sockets across all sites per applicant. There is a separate Workplace Charging Scheme with a different grant amount for state-funded education institutions.
  • The plug-in taxi grant (PiTG) has been introduced as an incentive scheme designed to support the uptake of purpose built ULEV taxis. It is designed to bridge the cost gap that currently exists between taxis powered by internal combustion engines versus new ultra-low emission technologies. The PiTG scheme offers a discount on the price of eligible taxis of up to a maximum of £7,500 or £3,000, depending on the vehicle’s range, emissions and design. One of the requirements is that the vehicle should be wheelchair accessible.
  • Small non-domestic property owners can apply for capital grants towards the costs of low-carbon heating systems such as heat pumps & biomass boilers through the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme.
  • Grants are available to SMEs in the UK to help with the costs of installing electric vehicle (EV) charge points for their operations and staff through Eco Providers UK: Heating & Insulation Grants.
  • The Flexible Plastic Fund provides funding and support to UK businesses to incentivise their recycling of 'flexible' plastic items including bags, wrappers, films, pouches, packets and sachets.
  • PRISM, funded by Innovate UK, has funding available to the UK steel and metals sector to support innovation in decarbonisation, digital technologies and circular economy.
  • The HSBC Green SME Fund is a funding initiative to help small and medium-sized businesses decarbonise and invest in green projects.
